» ` Word Problem # 4

You've been hired to mow your neighbour's lawn this summer. Your neighbour will pay you $5 each time that you mow his lawn, and it takes you 40 minutes to mow his lawn.

How much money do you make per minute (money ÷ time), and how much money should the neighbour pay you if it takes 60 minutes to mow the lawn ?

ANSWER:

money per minute : 12.5 cents
neighbour should pay : $ 7. 50 to mow the lawn

How to get the answer ?
- divide 5 by 40
- move the decimal point between 2 and 5 ..so it becomes 12.5 cents
- multiply 0.125 by 60 .. so you get the answer for how much money should the neighbour pay you.
- then add zero after 5
